I Honestly think they don't know that there are other parts of the world that spell differently.

I was always getting bad marks for spelling "colour" "practise" or "neighbour" wrong because I read so many books from England and Canada. So I understand what you mean. In America, spelling became a really big thing due to Noah Webster writer of the American dictionary and the inventor of the spelling bee. In school, spelling is very important and is often taught with games, weekly tests, etc. Students are rewarded for doing well in spelling every year of their schooling, so they are proud of their ability. Most of them probably have no idea that there are different correct ways of spelling the same words.

Hi there,
I am an American in Europe and I think you maybe right sometimes that happens. I think Americans feel they are a bit superior at times. I know its a lttle bad but they do mean well. Also on the other hand the English have from time to time corrected me on how I say things such as schedule, garage etc.. I don't mind it we all learn from one another in the end.

,the Americans make themselves as clear with their wording as we do in the UK....
There will always be some wise guy who questions our spelling ,!!!
whether they are right or not LOL!
But is not surprising that Americans do spell things,
a little different to us occasionally
,as they are not required to learn to spell ( in the Kings or Queen's English , ) as we are .
America is not a colony, it is an independent continent , so it is quite in order to word things the way they are taught ..
Most spelling is fine by me, so long as i can understand the context .

Because we're arrogant. Just kidding. I don't know. What bugs me is when people criticize the question's spelling instead of answering it. Maybe it's because they can't give an intelligent answer, so they try to make themselves look smart by showing off their spelling skills.

Because in the US, that is how they are spelled. I have seen many people from other countries correct spelling before.

for example...?
if a non-english speaker mispells a word, then an english speaker (whom americans happen to be) can correct them... whats the problem? some people around the world speak this computer lingo that shortens words and replaces "cks" with "x" and all this other ridiculous slang that is incomprehensible to the rest of the world... whats wrong with correcting them? or do you mean correcting differences between british english and american english?
