I have both and both have their pros and cons. Cats are independent, have no B.O., and come litterbox trained. Dogs are extremely affectionate, loyal, and come when they're called.

Goldfish they don't have fleas, shed hair all over the place, don't cost half as much money and don't cause problems with the neighbours.
Cats bring in dead mice and birds and scratch the furniture
Dogs drool and are too bouncy (if big) or yappy(if small)
Trust me I know all about pets
