You got the story mostly correct. He serve in the Air National Guard, not the Reserves. His rich daddy who was either head of the CIA or an elected official at the time pulled strings for him to go to the front of the line to get into the ANG. Karl Rove, Harriet Myers and Karen Hughes are all credited with making sure that no records exist to confirm the many rumors. It is known that while attached to the Texas Guard, he was transferred to an Alabama Guard unit so he could assist in the campaign of one of his father's friends. While in the Alabama unit he failed to have a physical exam and show up for duty. After the election and his time in Alabama, he got a deferment to attend business school.
These stories about Bush don't contradict his very ORDINARY academic accomplishments at Phillips Andover and Yale. And this is followed by a truly mediocre career in failed oil businesses. Certainly his political career has resulted in some sunning failures -- featuring the sluggish recovery from the hurricanes a year ago and the many failures associated with the invasion of Iraq and the slipping situation in Afghanistan where Taliban and war lords are re-taking regions and Karsai is seen more and more as weak and corrupt.
I marvel at George Bush's unaccountable self-esteem.

Bush was in the Air National Guard, not the Reserves. I think you mean AWOL (Absent without leave), not A-Wall. And, no, he wasn't AWOL. While he was on active duty in Alabama, he got a deferment to go to Harvard Business School.

Rich people's sons and politically connected kids never go AWOL. They just have "other commitments" which get smoothed over by their parents other rich and important friends.
