I try to remember an adverb is a word that describes the action. It 'add's to the verb' - adverb.

The boy ran quickly.

Quickly describes how the boy ran.

Hope that helps.

It is a word that modifies any kind of word except a noun. If it describes a verb, it's an adverb; if it describes an adjective, it's an adverb; if it describes another adverb, it's an adverb.

An adverb is a part of speech. It is a word that modifies any other part of language (verbs, adjectives (including numbers), clauses, sentences and other adverbs) except for nouns; modifiers of nouns are primarily determiners and adjectives.

Adverbs typically answer such questions as how?, when?, where?, in what way?, or how often?

My sister laughs loudly.
The sun shone brightly.

ha, what do you know me too! Well, an adverd doesnt describe a noun. Adjectives do like example "sally's hair purple" the adjective is purple, it describes her hair. Adverbs describe verbs like "Sally ran fast" fast is the adverb, it tells you how she ran, it decribes the verb.
