You have many options - some are free... some are not... all require you have an internet connection that's always on and that your ISP and/or router doesn't block the ports that the program(s) use to connect.

For example, if you use XP Pro, you can use Remote Desktop
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/remoteintro.mspx
(XP Home does NOT have this feature).

You could use http://www.GoToMyPC.com or a service like it.

You could use PCAnywhere software

You could use a VNC Variant:

http://www.tightvnc.com
http://www.ultravnc.com

And there are MANY, MANY other programs available...

There are services that allow you to "log in" to your computer remotely from another computer, but they charge a monthly fee.
Do a search on google to find the service you want. Otherwise, you can use the remote desktop feature in windows (start, all, programs, accessories, communications, remote desktop connection.) The two computers must be networked, however.

if it's running a *nix, do a remote login.
if it's running winblows turn on remote desktop [found on the 'remote' tab of the 'system properties' tabbed dialog.

if you're running apple, well i dont know where the setting is since it's basically a fluffed up *nix it has a remote desktop feature. they also seem to sell some remote admin app [pfffft no wonder they arent taking away more share of the market]

if you're running something else .... rtfm lol
