It's an essay about my summer reading book, and there is a specific topic I have to cover:

("The author James G. Cozzens once stated: 'I have no theme except that people often get a very raw deal from life.' How does this theme apply to your novel? Select one character who gets a 'raw deal from life'. State the situation, and, using referances to specific events in the work, show how the character is able to rise above the 'raw deal' or is overcome by it.")

I have a character and some examples and things already chosen, but the part I am unsure about is the essay itself, like the format i guess.
This is only the second year I've had to begin writing essays, so im not sure what to do or how to set up the structure right.

It only has to be 250-300 words long, so it's VERY short.

Start with the instructions. Open with, "the author James G. Cozzens once stated: ...blah blahblah...life." Introduction should include what you plan to go over. Give a brief synopsis of the story that shows of how the theme relates and fit the intructions in. Go to this web site it will help.

Hello ducksaregood,

First you have to start with your Topic Statement.

Topic statement is at least 3 topics about your subject. Put this as the first paragraph and cover each topic accordingly as the order you listed them in.

Example: My summer vacation this year was one of the best I've spent with my family. We went to several places like Florida, then on cruise ship and also the Bahama's.

The three topics would be Florida, Cruise and the Bahama's!

Then you would talk about each topic of interest:

Example: When we visited Florida bla bla....

Then end your essay with all your topics tied into a statement for your conclusion....

I hope this gets you going ducksaregood .... :>)

Use the basic essay format: Interesting intro paragraph, 2-3 filler paragraphs, and a satisfying conclusion. First be sure that you FULLY UNDERSTAND the quote. Also, try "embedding quotes" to save huge reference chunks from the book. Also try to make the essay interesting (yeah, I know it's cliched), even though it might seem like a boring assignment.

Well you should have no problem typing up 250-300 words. Since you spent so much time typing up your question. Best of luck.

If you're asking about the format, use this link. If you're asking us what you should write or how you should write it, then I guess you're screwed.
