I have to do that. Find your favourites folder in documents and settings and then zip all the files in it. Or download Winace - it does a similar thing - winace is good because it's easy to use and will encrypt files - even encrypt the file name too. It will encrypt the contents of an entire folder. I compressed the whole of documents and setting including my favourites, music, pictures, setting - the lot with winace. I wrote the winace file to my D: drive. I may burn a copy on CD or DVD just to be certain. Do all your contacts in Outlook Express too. Check all your emails - see if any contain info you need to keep. I printed out the key code for my anti virus and firewall. You may want to save your playlists for music player too - but they are probably in documents and settings. Saving all this stuff means burning a CD or DVD - copying it on to a flash drive - USB stick or digital media like SD card - I'll use my MP3 player for saving some stuff. make sure if you use wireless like me you have a copy of the encryption key stored safely too. If you use Winace - keep a copy of that too. Although you can download it again. Don't compress stuff like your encryption key obviously. I bet you forget to back something up! I always do!

You could burn the whole directory (on MS usually located C:\Windows\Favorites) onto CD then just load it back up when re-formatted and copy/paste into the empty Favorites folder.
