ok, ive asked questions about them before, but i need to know something.I have always been terrified of spiders from an early age,but my parents used to get rid of them- then i moved in with my boyfriend, who also hates them. the house we 1st lived in had hardly any spiders as we had no garden. 4 months ago we moved to a house with a garden, we had the occasional big spider in the bath, which i dealt with, and 1 or 2 elswhere. i accepted the occasional spider, as we had a garden, and accepted my fear. However, last tuesday, i had to kill 3 massive floor spiders in 45 mins, and became really disturbed. they ran out from my telly. ever since i was scared to be in my living room in the evening (9pm onwards). partley because the night after there was another, but i went straight to bed-i am in my front room now, have had a bot of wine but havent seen any.does this mean they have peaked and they will get less and less?HELP ineed rassurance.m from u by the way!!

all u who say they dont harm us and they're more scared of us etc- the existance of all these spiders in my home is very deteramental to my health! u are very lucky to not be afraid of them, as it is a terrible fear to have, as it affects u most of the time, especially this time of year

i used to have wolf spiders in my apartment. to get rid of them, i put chestnuts in every corner i could find.
yes, chestnuts. spiders have simple eyes. when they see another spider, it looks like a big ball hovering in the air (they can't see the legs of another spider).
because of the way that chestnut shells are, they sort of "sit" on a point, which elevates most of the chestnut off of the ground.
when a wolf spider sees a chestnut, it thinks it's another wolf spider. the spider does his little "territorial" dance. when the opposing spider (the chestnut) doesn't back down, the wolf spider gives up that territory and looks for something else.
if you put chestnuts in all of the corners of your apartment, this might work for you. it worked for me.

I study spiders and I can tell you a few things.
First you can get them in any type of building unless you move to a floor on a building that is above the 22 floor. There are few insects for the spiders to eat above this level.
The bad news is that if you have spiders on you floor you probably will soon have more spiders than that getting into your bed under the sheets. In fact I am pretty sure due to the heat that they have already set in motion several hundred little spiders that will live in the crack edges of the bed. These will grow and return to live in the bed while you are sleeping. The really large ones like the scent of male humans on sheets for some reason and will live in any bed that males sleep in.
The only way to prevent this is either make the male sleep in some other bed or make your guy take a shower EVERY night right before bed. And if you have sex in this bed then you better change the sheets right after he is done because the after fluid on him will attact even more spiders.
I can see that you have a serious spider problem already. Don't you remember how you had less of a problem before you had a guy around all the time. I know it is weird but I bet if you pull back and check the sheets at 3AM you will see a spider. Probably one of the larger ones because they will fight small ones off to have the best space which is in your warmth against your skin.
Good Luck. Best thing is to just move and make your guy take lots of showers.

Hey sweetie. Know the feeling. I hate daddy long legs and it's been a hell of a year for them too! This year has been particularly bad for spiders as it got warm really early and has stayed that way. Due to this warm they have been uncommonly large too. Now for the good news. Right about now they are in mating season which means the male spiders die after (how to put this delicately) mating. The females apparently die not long afterwards. I hope this helps. Also apparently an electronic bug repellent will keep them away though I am unsure whether that's because without bugs there's no food for them or because it stops them!

Well girl you are missing out on the treat of a lifetime, here is what you must do... catch the varmints and put them into a stout recepticle until you have a dozen or so, then get a slice of warm toast with plenty of butter spread on it. shake the spiders onto the butter and you'll find they get bogged down saving you the problem of continually having to catch them again. Eat the toast accompanied by a slightly chilled Claret, yes chilled, ignore the old school of thought that says it should be at room temperature, You are in for the treat of a lifetime, Raw long legged spiders on toast, ENJOY!

I don't think drinking a bottle of wine is going to make much difference as to whether or not they appear, hon - but I know what you mean!
I have had exactly the same problem - even down to them running out of, or under, my TV. I was talking to someone on the phone earlier and a monster came scuttling out. I hate having to kill them, but when I'm on my own and they hurtle towards me, I just have to!
Apparently there has been a larger number of house spiders on the move than usual this year - something to do with the warm summer and dampness of recent weeks. Aug/Sept is traditionally "spider season" anyway apparently, I think they come out looking for mating partners, or so I've always been led to believe.
It will get better - just hang on in there!

Its the time of years that spiders start coming in the house as the weather gets colder and damper and there are fewer insects around to eat they look for somewhere warmer and somewhere they can catch other bugs to eat as there ain't many insects outside either at this time of year and because u have a garden more insects = more spiders ...
they wont hurt u and are more of a help than a hindrance !!

Deal with your phobia of spiders ( they are just little things and scared more than you cos you can kill at any moment. They can't. If you in UK - they are harmless.)
I have a garden and do have lots of not just spiders but all that creepy crawlies and i hate them. Use "NO MORE SPIDERS" Non-harmful spider detergent spray (stinky but working fine. I have to repeat application around doors and windows ext once a week.
Good Luck!

its the time of year im afraid, are they the long legged variety? they peak around this time of year then usually dissapear in october, just chill out, they cant hurt you, they don't even have fangs (but then its pointless me telling you this because you know it all, as all people who are scared of spiders know but are still terrified for some reason) anyway they should have gone in a couple of weeks so don't worry

alot of them are coming inside this time of year to find a warm place for them and their eggs. Kill all of them you can see,
you can get a spray to spray around your doors and windows and around your baseboars to help with them, and get some of those sticky traps like for mice. In my shed I get really big spiders, so I put those traps out and it catches them, it also catches little bugs and attracts the spiders and they get caught.

My house is full of them and harvest flies (daddy long legs to some people) every time I open a window.
The 'season' is not over yet but its not far off. Alot will depend on the weather, if its warm they will all be around a lot longer.
