HAPPENED THIS SUNDAY:

Mark calls me up; 'Get a bite & chill?' Bored stiff myself I reply 'Let's go'. We stroll...1 1/2 hr passes & the scene was dead. I make a call then we leave back to Mark's so he could change. Drew [his rm8] was there so I invited him. We all caught a cab to anothr bar where about 6 frnds were now waitin for us.

After 4 or 5 rounds, countless stupid jokes & corny singin' we agreed to catch a cab. I hung out for there abt 30 mins then strolled home.

Mark's sis calls Monday morn 'He was arrested, no one knows what hapn'd.' So I call Drew & he tells me 'He strangled me almost to death, totally fu*ckd up the apt & went after the security guard with a knife.'

Thru it, he smiled weirdly-as both Drew & the officers claimed.

Mark is laid back & always got along w/ everyone. I can't ask him anything cause they're holdin him for a traffic vio. as well. Did he snap? Would it still have hpnd'd if I stayed longer? Should I go to court & testify?

Nope. Me and this dude drank ALL THE TIME. He was always fine before. No drama or anything of that sort.

Mark wasn't this type of guy at all. He's good lookin smart, still in school, working and was very popular with the females. All around good guy? Just makes me wonder, I've known this guy for a couple of years now ... should I have seen any signs? I don't remember anything out of the ordinary tho.

To me, it seems there are 4 options:

1. Way too much alcohol that took him over the edge (he "snapped")
2. Drugs (either experimentally, regularly, or he was slipped them)
3. He has some serious psychological issues (and might be a "closet psycho")
4. He had a concussion (which mixed with alcohol can cause significant personality changes)

It's impossible for you to know which of these happened without more information as to what happened to him that night.

If he's your friend, I would recommend testifying, which will give witness to his character. If he really has some deep psychological issues that he was hiding from you, a good psychologist should be able to detect them.

Good luck.

4 or 5 rounds? Could it have been more? Liquor does weird things to people after 3 drinks. Could someone have slipped something into his drink? Your question leads to too many other questions for a concise answer. Sounds like you should be thankful for your timely departure from your two friends. If his lawyer wants your help, he will tell you so with a lot of legal jargon.

How crazy would a person have to act before you thought they were crazy?
Yes he snapped, you weren't there so you can't testify. Who knows what would have happened if you stayed longer. Maybe they were fighting over you.

Do the police want you to testify? Otherwise, get as far away from this guy as possible. Never look back.
