Whats the point of dying if you know you are going to a "better place". Saying it was a great sacrifice is like saying you are a hero by moving from a ghetto to a mansion. It is never mentioned that the sacrifice was pain but the act of dying but if he had come from heaven then he would know it exists and therefore couldnt wait to get back there so its hardly a sacrifice.

spot, as it was written, the church has always emphasized the fact that he died as being the sacrifice, NOT the pain, so you cant go changing your story now and say it was all about the pain because that has NEVER been the point that was emphasized.

Cant you people read, everyone knows all about the pain and suffering, so why bring it up now? Basically what you are saying is that you know dying was pointless, so now you are going to change your story and say it was all about the pain.

Delusion really does make people stupid, cant you read the question, its about the church emphasizing death as being the sacrifice rather than pain.

Trading in your old bomb for a mercedes is not a sacrifice. And again you havent read the question, it is about the church not jesus. It has nothing to do with if he made some sort of sacrifice its about the churches interpretation

i think it comes back to the distinction between religion and science.
religion - just believe it, don't ask too many questions. he died for your sins, just go with it.
science - analyze *everything*, be a sceptic.
It's basic 'belief' versus 'think and ask'.

Personally, I've asked this question too, and people that believe aren't interested in hearing this question. Religious people can't give you an acceptable answer to satisfy a logical questioning mind. You're saying 'it doesn't add up', and they're saying 'God created the adding system, of course it adds up'.
So, sorry, but I guess that means that you're never going to get a decent answer. People that don't believe will have more questions for you, while people who do believe will avoid answering and never give you an answer you'd consider acceptable. It's kind of like arguing in different languages.

Good point. Every noble action is backed by a noble reward, but then again, the sacrifice is usually in the difficult trials which must be endured in attainment of those ends.

So was there physical pain? The bible recorded substantial evidence of pain from the Garden of Gethsemene to the lashes and the crown of thorns to the nails and the spear on the cross. Definitely not for me.

So was there any spiritual pain? Again, the New Testament seems to be saturated with accounts of such through His last days beginning with the Last Supper and the knowledge of the Betrayal

Did Christ know that He would be exalted? He spoke as though he knew of a certainty, but being the first to accomplish that mission, the knowledge must have been founded in faith.

The sacrifice seems pretty clear to me. The move from the ghetto was not without substantial "objection," (as most readily evidenced by the crucifixion) and work in a spiritual realm beyond the comprehension of most people (those who have not experienced the salvation of Christ's atonement).

Good question I think some believe he was showing that he was truly human. If you choose to interpret things historically your going to get what we have always gotten when people interpret religion as history that is war name calling and misunderstanding. Or you could look at it spiritually and take in the lesson for your own journey in life. Sacrifice is a very important lesson to learn. Allot of people don't ever Grow up they never leave there childish ways they are never reborn spiritually to a new life. I'm not talking religion I'm talking about growing through the stages of life. They just never get it. It doesn't matter if Jesus went to heaven what matters is that when your in a marriage for example you sacrifice yourself your own wants for the other. When you have children you place them first you sacrifice your own wants and desires for a greater good. Its about living in compassion. IF you missed it read it again this time read it to improve yourself not to win an argument. If its about wining an argument put the book down and ask what your angry about. who your angry at and why you let them take up space in your head. When you let that anger GO you can see allot of people feeding hungry kids today because they believe in that sacrifice. Its about compasion.

In the Old Testament, to be forgiven for general sins, one would have to sacrifice an animal. You would give an animal without blemish, slaughter it, then burn it on an alter. Of course we are all born in sin, due to Adam's and Eve's great sin that costed them immortality. This great sin can not be forgiven with a mere perfect animal sacrifice. A much greater sacrifice has too be done. A human sacrifice was needed. A perfect specimen at that would have to be used. Jesus would be the perfect specimen. Through Holy Spirit, he was born. Jesus knew his sacrifice was necessary and accepted it whole heartedly. His death would be our salvation for all time.
His appearance for a brief time after his death was due to his resurrection. He was dead for 3 days. The Almighty was angry and wrecked the temple with a great quake the moment Jesus died. Even though the Almighty would resurrect him in 3 days, he was greatly disturbed, because Jesus was non-existent for those 3 days.
After Jesus's appearance to around 500 of his followers, he then ascended up to the clouds, never to be seen again. We'll assume he then was stripped of his Earthly body, and would be a heavenly spirit once again.
In order to gain salvation now, we have to pray "through" Jesus who will intercede in our behalf to the Almighty God.

ummmmm......... let's see. jesus was beaten with the cat of nine tails. he was tortured, he didn't appear to be human after his beatings. he then had to carry a heavy, cumbersome cross on his back. he was soooo tired the Roman guards had some one else carry to the Galgotha. then his hands and feet were nailed to the cross. he had to raise himself up to take a breath which put all his weight on his feet. the feet that had nails in them. not only was this physical pain he was also taking on all the sin in the world, all that had taken place and all that will have happen. the crucifiction took several hours and finally jesus died. then he laid in the tomb for 3 days before he rose again. jesus sacrificed for every human who had ever lived and for all that will live in the future. i would say this is sacrifice.

The sacrifice was Jesus dying. You are confused and someone has filled you head with non-sense. Jesus died so that mankind will no longer have to sacrifice animals in order to communicate with God.. Jesus became that ultimate sacrifice. Please read your Bible so no one can give you confusing ideas that are no-where near the truth.

Questions about Jesus, or Questions designed to convert or recruit people to Jesus are simply a waste of time. People have already decided for the most part if they believe in the fiction written in the bible. People who feel God talks to them have psychological problems because hearing voices is a psychological illness. %-}

He went through all that pain and suffering. They beat him unmercifully, stuck a crown of thorns on His head, spat on Him, NAILED HIM TO A CROSS!!!! He sacrificed His body just for us! That's where the sacrifice is! Then He went back to heaven to prepare a place for us[us meaning those people who actually believe that He died on the cross for us and rose the third day(Christians)].
