What about 3rd place through last...does it matter?

Yes. Last year the Astros players got about $192,000 each for winning the NL pennant, and the White Sox got about $324,000 each for winning the World Series. Obviously that doesn't mean as much to the superstar players earning $10M per year, but for a rookie earning $330,000 in salary it's a big deal.

Yes players get paid to play in the postseason, and postseason play is also where most baseball franchises start making money because playoff tickets cost more.
