First of all, don't fret. Work on that back handspring...take a gymnastics class or talk to your gym instructor about some after school time. Maybe she can give you some pointers on getting the height that you are looking for.

Secondly, try out regardless of what your chances are! I have seen things happen during tryouts that totally revamp the way a squad is chosen. Go in there with attitude...know your routines and give them lots of personality!

Finally, the experience will be a stepping stone for trying out again any time in the future. Good luck!

Schools now are very strict on requirements. I did some cheerleading and if you cannot do what you are required to, there is going to be someone else that can. I suggest that you practice. If you do not make cheerleading this year, you can always practice and hope to make high school JV. I will tell you, you will have to to a back handspring in high school and if you cant, you wont even be able to try out.

Here's the lesson to learn, which will be important for the rest of your life. Practice. It might not make perfect, but you'll know you put in all your effort even if you don't make it. You won't want to regret not practicing!! Then, try out!! If you don't make it...IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!! Life is about living, taking safe 'risks', putting yourself out there. Who knows? Maybe if the coach see's how intensely you practice to try to nail the moves...she'll place you on the squad for the hard work and drive you show!

DONT DO IT - know the rest of the world laughs at cheer leaders and the "american" high school crap...
why not put the effort into getting to know yourself or charity work?? let's face it Cheer leading seems very self centred and pretencious.. I hope your not one of those girls that gets in the cheer leading squad and then bullies uglier bigger girls! Dont put your self under so much pressure with these jumps...

Just try out. If you're embarrassed that you might not make the team say, "My best friend made me try out." What have you got to lose.
