The computer (not mine) hasn't been turned on in over 3 months. It is old and a student built it with a mix match of pieces. Any idea as to how I can figure out what is going on and how can I fix it?

best way is to try using another PS2 keyboard or a USB if ports are available

Try to change keyboards, if the other keyboard doesn't work, then the computer is dying.

if its a usb try plugging it into a different port if its a ps2 its probally gone south or the port on the motherboard is out if it lights up the second is the less likely

if its a desk top and doest respond, check the motherboard for a damadged port. if it still doesnt work, buy a usb keyboard and just plug it into a usb port.
