Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not.
My husband and I tried for 1 year and had no luck....the first month that I began using the book I realized that my timing was WRONG!. We got pregnant that very first month and I am now due Feb 2, 2007. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

This typically varies from person to person. There is not sure way to know you are ovulating without taking a furtility test you can find at places like Walmart, or the doctor can run more accurate ones. But the general case is that most woman, particularly woman who have the general cycle time like yourself, ovulate approximately two weeks before you actually start. It's usually right in the middle. Sometimes you can tell because you might feel light stomach cramps around that time, or just feel extremely....frisky-if you know what I mean?...during that time. Some woman ovulate irratically though. Like my mother could only get pregnant right at the end of her cycles. That is very unusual since they cycle usually is triggered by the loss of an unfertilized egg, but it happens. If you want to know for certain, I would suggest you getting the ovualtion tests or going to a doctor who specializes in family prep. I hope that this has helped at all.

Most women ovulate 12-16 days before their period and within individual women, this rarely fluctuates by more than a day. Since your cycles are irregular, you can't really rely on past cycles to determine when you're ovulating in any given cycle.
I highly recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It has tons of good information about how our cycles work and you'll learn how to chart your own cycles and monitor your basal body temperature and other fertility signs so that you can actually know when you're ovulating in any given cycle.

You will usually ovulate about 12-15 days from the day your period starts. Get a basal thermometer. Take your temperature every morning before you get up/move around. When the temperature starts to spike you're ovulating. Good luck!

You would ovulate somewhere around day15 and day 18. Women usually ovulate 14 days before they start of their period, that's how I came up with that. Day 1 is the first day of your period.
