Hi, i am 19 and was told that i have PCOS last month( i am also on Ortho tri cyclen LO but was put on this to to make my periods regular) but she also said that i don't show signs of having cyst on my ovarys. but she is not treatin me for PCOS. is she not doin anything because i didn't say that i want to have kids yet? because me and my B/F(20) talked it over and we know we are ready Money wise and Time a baby wouldn't be a problem.

So should i ask her to put me on the Metformin? we havn't TTC yet just once and it didn't work but that could be form the B/C. So should we TTC first and if it does work try the Metformin or just go ahead and do the Metformin? And also did this drug really work for any of u, if so how long did it take?

it not even a point of me getting married or not. i don't think that the doctor should just let me sit here with these and not try and do anything about it she just said that i had it and sent me home not tellin what to do about and i want kids either no or someday and i don't want to have to go throught years of wait because i didn't start the pills early on if it can help in anyway. if i start those pills me and him will use protection until we ready to try again

It is also used for people with PCOS to make them ovulate. There is something about the way your ovaries do not process insulin the right way. This is used to correct that. Another name for the med is Glucophage

I have PCOS and am on Metformin. People who have PCOS tend to be insulin resistant, Metformin(Glucophage) can be used for more than just diabetes. Metformin not only helps get your insulin under control, it helps to regulate your periods. Probably due to your age and not being married your doctor decided to put you on birth control to just regulate your periods. Most doctors won't put you on any medicine to help you conceive until you have tried for at least one year without success. And please, no offense when I say this because I do not mean it that way, but just because you are financially ok and have the time for a child, please make sure you are emotionally ready for it. Not trying to scare you but women who have PCOS have a higher miscarriage rate than other women. If you and your boyfriend are emotionally ready for a child, tell your doctor, have her take you off of the Ortho and put you on Metformin to regulate your periods instead. Been on Metformin for about a year and a half. Price depends on if you have insurance or not and Metformin is the generic to Glucophage so it's not as expensive. Good Luck

Metformin is for those that are Insulin Resistant, but it will not help you ovulate, it will help get your insulin under control & help you lose weight (if you are overweight).

I have PCOS & took Metformin (but got off of it cause it made me extremly ill) & the doctor told me it will NOT help you get pregnant. I see a Reproductive Endcronolgist by the way, not a regular OBGYN.

If you get married, then the doctor will know you are really ready to have a child. You shouldn't even consider it until you are married!

Metformin is a diabetes medicine - are you sure that's what you need for PCOS?
