I'm getting the new 24" iMac. I was just wondering when to buy it. I know that Leopard is coming out in spring 2007. My question is whether apple usually comes out with new iMacs when they come out with a new OS. If not, I would buy sooner than later. But if they did, then I'd probably wait. Thanks in advance.

I do not expect them to change the iMacs much for the next year. They might update the processors again, but that'll probably be it. I don't have any guarantees, but this is what I feel will happen. My family is going to get one when Leopard comes out- for the sake of an updated OS, and for the complete, final version of Boot Camp. The iMac is already a great computer, and it is just going to keep getting better. No matter how long you wait, it will get out-dated in a few years. You have to decide how much and how soon you need one as opposed to the benefits of waiting.

You can check with Apple, but they usually offer an upgrade special when you buy close to the introduction of a new OS. It will not be free, but it might be reduced. If you can wait, I would suggest that. The new 24" is an awsome computer. Letting a few people bang away on them for 90 days will only insure that yours has the bugs worked out.

I have heard rumors that there is another announcement between now and Christmas and then of course, there will be upgrades when Leopard comes out. Don't forget if you are using wireless, that the new standards are being finalized this fall. So my guess is that the new standards will be out in spring with Leopard anyhow. 11N is supposed to be about 10 faster then 11g.

To those of you who know nothing about apples, remember last year, they got desktop, laptop and server of the year. And if you are complaining about their prices, read this: http://yahoo.businessweek.com/technology/content/sep2006/tc20060913_201871.htm

Also, Apple has the best support of any machine I have ever owned and that includes a IBM and Dell.

You must have had the lobotomy already or you'd buy a PC instead of that proprietary and overpriced Mac.

Forget macs. PC is the only way to go.
