Because with a new born, if you take them into the cold it will actually cause their body temperature to drop. Unlike us adults who feel the difference in the temperature and our bodies react by shivering, their little bodies just adjust to the temperature they are in. That is why you have to keep them bundled up in the cold. One of the requirements to bringing home a premature infant is that they have to be able to maintain a normal body temp. when they are uncovered and not bundled in a regular room temp. room.

When a baby gets cold they don't shiver or cry because they have to conserve as much energy as they can to stay somewhat warm. When they get too hot though, they scream, cry and kick.

babies cant regulate their body temperatures so it is extremely important to look out for signs of too hot or cold. Ive tried to find out why they cant regulate it but alas don't know.

hmmm.....good question.I have never noticed that. But I do know that when they are cold,like right after a bath then yes they do shiver somewhat.
