This happened to me in Grade 4, with learning long division: it was a terrible struggle, and once I figured it out, the test was over & so was the unit. Ever since then, I've noticed it's a metaphor with so many other things, including life itself.

Probably because you were smart enough to understand the general basics but did not have enough practices / study to nail the test or life matters when knowledge and experience were called upon.

Even enlightenment is a means, not the end. I've heard Buddha was enlightened at age 40.... after years of constant work.
