You feel that way because you are an impatient little spud who thinks doctors can cure everything.
Sure you are not just hungover?

As a physician, I think you fail to look at our lot. Fortunately I am an internist and miss out on many of the problems for family care physicians. However we deal with recalcitrant patients who often fail to follow good advice, forget their medications and expect miracles. We deal with 'emergencies' that only happen on week-ends or at ungodly hours to fit the patient's busy life. We handle people with poor hygiene, poor diet and unreasonable demands and are grateful that we have nurses to act as a barrier . We bring children into the world and watch others die as we have lost the battle against disease. We are expected to be current on all new medications and therapy. We deal with nonsense about the miracles of 'green tea, coffee enemas, moxibustion'. We encounter rising health care costs that prevent the best medical care. We deal with insurance companies that attempt to delay payments while we struggle to pay our technicians and nurses. The equipment we need in our offices is not as cheap as you might think but we have to have it. Then too, we have to guard against addiction and mis-use of drugs. Our own liability insurance comes at a high price and certain specialties such as OB-GYN insurance is outrageously high. We spend time everyday with medical journals, and the amount of paperwork is overwhelming. When a physician goes home, the day is not over, as you can't turn off the thinking. The question should be 'Why do we do it?' The answer is that we do care but we are also not God. We do what we can.

You really need to find another doctor. One that you feel is giving you the best treatment you deserve. All doctors are not the same. Trust between a doctor and patient is essential, it makes you feel a whole lot better knowing that your doctor cares about your well being.

I agree that you should find a new doctor or at least get a second opinion. You never know, you may decide to make the second opinion doctor your PCP. You have the choice on which doctors you chose to go to.

doctors are no more or less human than the rest of us. Like any group of professionals, there are those that have a good interpersonal manner and there are those that don't. If you are unhappy with your practitioner, find one you do like and don't color all of the profession with the same brush.
