It really depends on how you option them - all of them had base models that are quite slow. So I will compare the highest performing one each model has to offer.

I'd pick the Avenger as worst of the lot - it uses a stretched Eclipse chassis but a rather disappointing V6 instead of the turbo inline four.

The Probe is not much faster than the Avenger, but has excellent handling. They used to dominate G/Stock autocross racing before the MINIs came out. I would also expect it to be the most reliable of the choices - they don't have too many known weak points compared to Mitsubishi's turbo monsters. This would be my pick as an everyday car.

Stealth and 3000GT are the same under the sheet metal. The VR4 or fully loaded R/T pack a twin turbo V6 and are loaded to the gills with technology. Trouble is, they've got a lot of gizmos that can go wrong and are expensive to fix. Plus, the all wheel drive gear adds a lot of weight. A VR4 weighs about as much as a Chevy Caprice. Seriously. It's a good boulevard cruiser and decently fast in a straight line, plus it looks cool.

But the Eclipse would be my pick if you want performance above all else - and you would want to hold out for a GSX or at least a GS-T. They've got lots of mod potential and weigh hundreds of pounds less than 3000GT. (Note: The 2000 and later Eclipses were like a reincarnation of the 3000GT without the turbo and all wheel drive. A decent cruiser but you can't mod one like a GSX.) But if you get one, have it looked over very carefully by a good mechanic who knows Mitsubishis. There are a lot of abused ones out there.
