i am a provider and yes it is very very important. i work with two year olds. for instance we wash our hands after potting, playing outside, before and after lunch, when we sneeze or cough. things you remind them no fingers up the nose, cover your mouth, and obviously with kids this young keep your hands out of your pants LOL. as well as naive as it sounds a lot of providers do not think of it but little girls who are potty trained and potty training need access to tissue paper. i no like with having 2 yr olds we are not allowed to keep it in the bathroom because they play in it. if you enforce good hygiene it will keep the germs down. as you no kids carry them well.
