Full term infants (neonates the first month) are born with the ability to suck, a fear of falling, and if the umbilical cord is not cut until it quits pulsating, an extra shot of immune system booster from their mother. They learn shortly after birth how to identify their mother by smell.

They reconginze the mother by her smell, sucking, the startle reflex when they are scared

a bunch of neonatal reflexes that they'll lose when they get older and that help them to always stay attached to their mom, like baby apes will too.
