Cutting rodent nails are difficult/impossible without a second person. Have someone else who your hamster knows (or you) to hold him on a cloth with the eyes wrapped over. If he doesn't calm down, try giving him something to lick so he won't need the use of his paws and you (or the person not holding him) try to get in there and clip the nails.
Keep some health care stuff around incase a nail is clipped too close or an accident happens.

i do no longer think of in all my time engaged on the vet well-being facility, that I actual have ever decrease a hamsters nails. it incredibly is to no longer say that it does no longer ensue, I do purely no longer think of they often have an argument with their nails. it may additionally be that the final public of folk who own hamsters do no longer take them to the vet to get nails clipped. Hamsters have "extra" pores and skin on their backs, and you will gently pull a fold of pores and skin up and carry directly to the hamster that way on an identical time as you decrease the nails. sometimes making use of a small towel may well be efficient. in the event that they are long you need to use a tiny pair of human nail clippers and purely decrease the pointy factor off of each and every person. reducing purely the tip off could shop you properly remote from the fast, yet while one starts off to bleed you could placed corn starch or flour on it to end the bleeding. i does no longer placed sandpaper or something down interior the cage by way of fact this would reason ulcerations on the pads of their feed.

its rare that they grow too long except in old age. r u certain theyre too long cuz theyre naturally pretty long? r they curling under? u said u just got him so i doubt he's old.
it's very difficult to do unless your hamster is pretty tame & u have one person hold him while u cut with nail clippers. it's also dangerous because if u cut too far they have veins in there and will bleed. u can try a file, but thats pretty hard. send me a pic & ill tell u if he truly needs it. vets can do it but have to specialize in hamsters to have the right tool. best to not try yourself for the safety of your hamster.
