Yes. But not like PBS. BBC is completely funded by governement, unlike PBS which gets a lot of it's money from private foundations.

Uhm......not really run but payed for. Many countries have 'public' channels that are payed for with tax money but independently run.

The BBC news did get comments from politicians during the Falkland war when it referred to British troops and not 'our' troops.

Yes it is. That's why none of us in England trust a word the B.B.C say.
They're just the mouth piece for the government and so always slant their programming accordingly.
A bit like TASS used to in the old soviet union.
