In direct staining, the dye has a direct chemical affinity for the substance you are trying to stain. In indirect staining, the dye does not have a direct affinity for the target substance, but a third substance has an affinity for both the dye and the target substance and can therefore be used as a "chemical bridge" to attach the dye to the target.

direct staining is when you shart thats when you think you farted but you actually sh&* your pants

indirect staining is when you wipe your *** but you didnt get it all and a stain appears on your tighty whiteys
