We get along really well (she doesn't really act her age) but do you all think she's just using me to make herself feel younger? Would it benefit her more to be with women her own age? Should I drop her a hint?

Unless she wants it to be an exclusive friendship, then there's nothing wrong at all having friends of different generations. But if it's something that makes you uncomfortable, which it seems to, then you should try and separate yourself from her. No one will win in that situation.

Take care.

After reading the many other answers to your question I wish to add my own 2 cents.
I am 61 and have female friends of all ages-I am a very active and young thinking 61 where as someone else in my age group my not be. Yes, it makes me fell younger when I am with this ladies, of all ages, that act young. And it isn't just the older ones giving advice to the youngsters either both sides have their imput and sound advice. And as one person stated: "You'll be 42 + some day too.

If you two get along, then there shouldn't be any problems. She may not be able to relate to women her own age for some reasons. I think she may have some problems with accepting her age but I don't think you need to bring that up. You may want to ask her why she likes you as a friend.

Obviously this lady enjoys your company and prefers you to some people her own age group for her own reasons. I am on the downhill slide to seventy myself and would prefer to hang with people in their forties although I am not into their active activities. Their energy is exonerating and their freshness to innovation is exciting as well, rather than folks my own age who wish to be more or less couch potatoes. Do the math in that way possibly...so if you want to drop her a hint about telling her to get lost, then maybe you should just distance yourself from her instead. The fact that you seem bored with her and would rather hang with your own age group is obvious......friends know no boundaries......including age.......maybe it will take you til you are 40 to realize that

why stop being friends with her? Because of age? no i don't think so ....age is nothing but a simple number and cutting a friendship off because of that is nonsense...unless she makes you feel uncomfortable. When you need advice about men or marraige she should be the first person to talk to(besides mom or dad) she's a women who is experienced in the REAL world.

Hmm. You get along well, but you don't want to hang around her because she's much older.

Did you ever think she hangs around you because she doesn't like hanging around people her own age? That she finds them boring or too restrictive?

... people gravitate to those they have the most in common with. You two have made a connection. If your friends are making fun of you for hanging out with her, then they need to grow the hell up.

If that isn't the case, then just enjoy your friendship. Who knows, she might teach you something. >:)

If you both enjoy each others company then whats the problem with being friends ?? You will be 42 one day so you can learn a lot from her on what to expect. And so what if she is friends with you to feel younger ?? Aren't we all friends with people that make us feel a certain way ?

Does it really matter that she is using you to make herself feel younger? If it irritates you than don't be her friend. Now there are two sides to that you know. Maybe your using her to make you feel mature and older, huh. Do what you feel is best if you think you are out of place tell her and she will probably not make a big deal out of it after all she is about twice your senior.

You can be friends with someone older. I became good friends with a dude I used to work with (old supervisor). I am 20 years younger than he is and he is still a cool guy to hang out with, drink with, and fish with. Age is just a number, if you share common beliefs and ideas, you can be lifelong buddies. Take a chance.........chances cost you nothing !

Why do you have an age limit for your friends? You should have more than one friend, anyway. Hang out with some people your own age, and hang out with her, too.
