You will hear over and over in Biology how structure is always related to function. I know I did! A lung cell is moist and has "gap junctions" which allow for gaseous exchange. The skin cells are used for protection and for the elimination of wastes and of water to enable evaporative cooling.

a skin cell in general is somewhat water resistant, and made to withstand weather, and contact. a lung cell needs to be permeable, and is in a pretty stable atmosphere.
