For the outside you should use exterior paint. I used American Tradition Duramax exterior Satin house paint in white. I found this to give excellent coverage and a very nice finish. For a nice finish use a foam brush or a small foam roller. Using a paint brush will cause brush marks. I bought this at Lowe's. It was expensive but worth since it gives a one coat coverage. Most metal doors come already primed white. If you should need to prime it first use a good interior/exterior primer so it can do both sides. Always use a foam brush or roller. This particular paint is so nice, I don't know why you couldn't use it for the interior. Ask about that at Lowe's and they will give you good advise if it can also be also used for interior. I used it on the interior wood work around the door and windows on my sunroom. Just so you know this particular paint can also have color added. Happy painting!

A good high quality exterior latex paint will do an excellent job on these exterior doors, providing that the metal surface was prepped well prior to the application of the paint top coat. Any paint job really is only as good as the prep work done prior to the application of any paint.

The easiest is a paint like Rustoleum. There are products available for nearly every surface, from metal doors to concrete floors, and lots of colour choices and finishes.

if it is a new door, you should use an aluminium primer and then any type of hammerite or an oil based undercoat and gloss coat, which won't last quite as long as a paint which is solely for steel purposes....if you wish , you can use an Iron oxide paint which you will probably never have to paint again...best of luck

the best paint once the surface is properly primed with a 'sand able primer' would be automotive paint. It may be expensive and have to sprayed on, but it will last and look good. If you can remove the door and do it your self or take to an automotive shop to see if they will do it for you from leftover paint they may have.

exterior latex paint. it will far outlast oils, and will dry much more quickly. one word of caution, if it is a new door, you need to clean it with a cleaner/degreaser like 409. metal doors have oily residue on them, which will cause any paint to peel if you do not clean really well. i would also lightly sand the door, then wipe down with your 409 cleaner. i would use two coats of the color of your choice. go to your local benjamin moore retailer, they will be very helpful, and should answer any questions you may have.

rustoleum or any other paint that works on metal. don't just jump on latex paint, if the paint used before (if it was painted before) is oil based then you might not want to use latex.
