I have just bought a new toyota camry. I am just inquring whether i have to warm up the engine before I drive off. When I ask the mechanics, they said that I don't need too because it is an engine with a new technology . And If I have to, what temperature is ready for me to drive off? thanks

Depends on the weather, if cold take a few minutes to warm the engine so you can use the defrost and drive safely. Other times, just take a minute to let the plugs get up to temp. and the oil to completely circulate and up to pressure, then go. Long idle times just build sludge, which is bad for an engine plus the waste of gas. In good weather is best to just get going after less than a minute, just do not Rev up the engine or go full speed until the engine is up to temperature so your computer has all the necessary information it needs to manage your fuel and timing etc.

It is not necessary to warm-up your car unless, the temperature is at 0 degress or below freezing. Most new cars on today's market are equipped with a Fuel Injection System. You may want to warm it up just to get the defroster working on the frosty windows or to simply get the heater going before you drive off freezing to death LOL. I drive a 1993 4D Toyota Corolla. I hardly ever warmed her up in cold weather and I haven't had any problems with her. ( Except for a couple of flats and a battery replacement). Congrats on your new purchase. You made an excellent decision.

actually i have seen most of ppl don't wramup the car. would run right away after they start the car. sometimes i wonder if they have time to buckle the seat belt
alright. i just occasionally warm up my car ( it depends on my mood or whenever i am not in a hurry). but i've heard the best way to warmup is to wait till the needle up the horizontal level. it takes about 2 or 3 minutes in a hot day. and up to 5 mintes in a cold day

ok... i guess whoever answered these questions are NOT mechanics or have none in the family. Do NOT make it a habit of driving your car without warming it up....it can damage your engine. What's the easiest way for me to explain this?.... You wouldn't sprint a race without stretching and warming up your muscles would you? You shouldn't hop in your car and take off without letting it warm up.... take the extra couple minutes and add extra years to your engines life.

you do not need to warm up your car before you drive. most only do that during winter months and then its not to warm up engine but to warm up the cabin and to defrost windows.

No you do not need to warm it up. You want good oil pressure and when you have it you may proceed.
