I had a house that just had them every summer - I didn't do anything to attract them. To get rid of them without chemicals or bug bodies in your food, set out fly paper.

I found a couple of "recipes" online when I had this problem 2 months ago. One that partially worked was to take some apple cider vinegar to a glass, add dish soap, and fill with warm water until there are suds on top. The fruit flies are attracted to the cider vinegar but get stuck in the suds. I found that this is true, but as the suds start to pop sometimes the flies get free (before they die). Getting rid of fruit and dirty dishes didn't help. Then I ended up plugging my sink drain for about a week and the problem seemed to disappear on its own. Good luck!

Get a few frogs and put them in your kitchen. Don't feed them and they will eventually start eating the flies. You may have to hold them in the air near where the flies are buzzing around to get them familiar with your flies. Select the best fly eaters each generation to mate and after about 10 or 20 thousand years they will evolve into the best fruit fly eating kitchen frogs you've ever seen. At that time you can train them to also do your dishes.

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Yes, you can. I had them horribly almost a year ago in my new home. They were everywhere. They really like to be in your kitchen and bathroom.
Solution: Get several small bowls. Fill them half full with a red sweet wine (like Sangria),
also mix in about of tablespoon of liquid soap (like Dawn). Let sit out for several days. The fruit flies will come to the wine. With the soap in there they can't hang on to the side of the bowl due to it being slippery (hence the soap)so they drown. I got rid of them in 2 days completely.

This might sound crazy, but it works great! Set out a bottle of your favorite wine cooler (drink what you need, just make sure you leave some for the flies) and set it out on the counter. In the morning, you'll notice flies in there in the morning. I found this out by accident, but I use that method now.

Any sweetish alcoholic beverage -- Guinness, port, sherry, etc. Put out a
saucerful in the area where they hang out. They come to drink and stay to
drown.
Old saying: you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar
