The key to these problems is grouping the like terms. You want everything tied to a variable (b, x, etc.) on one side, and everything that is just a number on the other:

PROBLEM 1

Starting with:
2b = 8 - 8b

Add 8b to both sides:
10b = 8

Divide both sides by 10:
b = 8/10

Reduce the fraction:
b = 4/5

PROBLEM 2

Starting with:
3x = 27 - 15x

Add 15x to both sides:
18x = 27

Divide both sides by 18:
x = 27/18

Reduce the fraction:
x = 3/2

Make it a mixed fraction:
x = 1½

And it is always a good idea to check your answer by plugging the value back into the original equation to make sure it balances. I'll leave this step to you...
