When viewed in My Pictures folder, they are sharp and clear

My guess is they are at a much lower resolution. Save them from the website and compare the size of the original photo vs the saved photo. I'm guessing the saved photo's file is much smaller usually meaning lower res.

If the pictures were posted on the website at the same exact resolution then probably you have a internet accelerator installed/enabled that reduces the quality of the images in order for them to load faster.

Now, that is a really good question. When I send a picture when I am IMing someone, on my computer the picture is sharp, but blurry on their end.
