It looks like a beetle of some sort. I found a website last night to identify a bug I'd never seen. It helped me identify my buy. Check it out you may even find your bug there.... http://whatsthatbug.com/
After doing some more looking I am pretty sure it is a beetle. Check out this website... http://waynesword.palomar.edu/ww0502.htm There are several pictures that look close and near identical to your creature.

The image is too dark to tell what it is. The head looks like an ant, but the antennae are wrong. The abdomen looks sort of like a locust but the legs are wrong for that. Being two inches long and common in your area, wherever that is, makes me believe that it is some form of beetle as well. Chances are it is a plant eater and not harmful to people in any way.
If you are interested, you can pick it up with your thumb and forefinger from the backside, on top of where the wings should be, place it in a jar, and take it to your local pest control company. They should have knowledge of your local pests.

It's just being friendly. May not be the cuddliest animal around, but I doubt it is dangerous. But as I'm only an ameteur etymologist (with no real training besides looking at bugs and researching them on the net myself), you may want to find a way to trap and/or kill it before it gets to you or any family members. I also suggest an exterminator.

UGLY! Never saw one of those before, sorry. I thought maybe you were discribing a stink bug until I saw the picture. Take a glass jar outside and scoop it up and put the lid on it. Take it to the library or see an exterminator and ask them what it is.

It looks like a rove beetle, family Staphylinidae.
Most rove beetles are small, but there are a couple of large one, one brown with yellowish
hair and the other mostly black. The generic name
of one is Creophilus, I don't remember the other.
They are not especially aggressive, but if handled
could probably give a minor bite.

Mutant Cockroach? I'm not really sure, but as was stated above, get an exterminator and kill the nasty little creatures.
