I use the net a lot, and have been talking to a person in Nigeria, I am from Wales in UK. I have been told that all I got to do to help this person escape poverty in Africa is to invite them to Wales as my guest. And they will be given a visa and be able to live here and escape poverty. Surely if everyone in the rich countrys done this there would be nobody left in the poor countrys. And poverty would be solved. Is me inviting this person to Wales a good idea? Is there something I am missing here? or could poverty realy be solved if enougth people were to invite others to move?

I have considered giving to charitys, but from what I have heard about these countrys, the only people you would help doing that is the politicians, as so much of this money ends up in the pockets of these corrupt people running the counties.

At least by inviting someone I can know for sure that I have helped, even if it is only one person.

It seems that even the poorer counties have internet cafes now, but most people dont have their own computers or internet.

I just want to respond to all you ignorant people responding to this question who refer to poor people being lazy. People in third world countries are far from lazy. These people work hard and strenuous labor each and every day as hard as they can from a very early age just to make the 35cents a week or whatever they make. It is quite unfortunate that you people perceive these people as lazy because I am sure that they work harder than any of the rest of us.Inform yourselves.

No, thats ridiculous you can't solve poverty. If we invited them all to our "rich countries" then we would cease to be rich countries, our economies would dwindle and then everyone would have it rough. Even in the USA there are people starving to death. Here's some stats for you. In the USA 95% of all the money is controlled by 5% of the people. Guess what that means. That means 5% of this country's wealth is spread out over 95% of our people. Why don't you try inviting and American to Wales instead.

Poverty exists because capitalism and its system of competing wages exists. It's like how unemployment is built into the US economy, and why the US government allows for programs to help the poor cope with the poverty they put them into. That's a common misconception among impoverished Nigerians and many others in developing countries. As long as capitalism rules, the rich will get richer, the poor poorer, and the middle class will grow larger to bear the burden of the economy.

Poverty cannot be solved through individual charity alone. We cannot possibly lift everyone up - instead we must create the conditions in which people can lift themselves up. Under those conditions, only those who do not care for themselves are wretched.

I don't think it is a good idea to invite all the poor people to Wales. Instead, find out what you can do to improve the conditions in Nigeria.

This will not solve poverty.

Some of the poorest countries in the world have wealthy people.

On the flip side, some of the wealthiest countries in the world..(Europe, USA, China) have poverty all over the place.

Poverty knows no geographical limits or restrictions.

Do you know how many poor and poverty striken people there are on the streets of London? and the major cities of 1st world countries.

No - let epolpe live where their ancestors lived- let them live off the land- let them live in peace. Give them and education- that will solve their pverty. from there they will be able to build a society that they and their children can work together for social justice.

The number of people in poverty far outweighs the number of people living in rich countries. The money that is spent on flying people from poor countries to rich countries could be spent on programs to make those poor countries less poor (agricultural and technological improvements, for instance).

Nigeria is a VERY poverish area...if this person is SO badly impoverish how is it possible to have a computer which is a luxury there ? Another thing the best way to find out about the visa thing is to check your countrys international immigration laws.

it might help for a few people, but if everyone started doing that there would be huge overpopulation issues in the places where they were invited to opening the door to increasing poverty and all kinds of other problems in the 'richer' countries.

Are you in a position to support your "guest" and his family?

Yeah, if every wealthy person supported as many poor people as he or she could -- there would be fewer people living in poverty.

Most of us barely have the wherewithal to support ourselves.

If you have surplus money -- by all means, adopt an African.
