The old saying ... Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me ... is so untrue!!! Words cut to the quick, diminish self-esteem, deepen depression, alienate, etc. I worked with battered women for 11 years. They all said pretty much the same thing ... they'd rather their partners would hit them. Physical bruises heal quickly. The wounds left by unkind words, though invisible to the eye, last forever.

Yes. Hurtful words can destroy friendship, relationships, could get you fired, and destroy your image the way others see you..The list can go on and on. Words once spoken cannot be taken back even if the person ask for forgiveness.

Yes, they can. Verbal abuse can be the most hurtful and really stay with the person a very long time. If you've said something hurtful, apologize quickly. If you've been hurt verbally, forgive so you don't have to relive it over and over.

"sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me" that's so untrue and you should definitely not believe that. Words CAN hurt and you shouldn't feel ashamed for being hurt by them. "words can crash things that are unseen." feelings.
