This means in the larger sense that no one person is better, more valuable, or more important than any other person. It would be analagous to "We are all equal before the law." It does not imply that by human terms we are equal. As an example, sure to upset some people, George W. Bush, Osama bin Laden, the Pope, a poor crack head, and a someone suffering from Down's Syndrome would be equal in the eyes of God, or some other observer above and beyond human perception, would be considered equal.

Well, it should mean literally everyone is equal from God's point of view, but since we as a human race feel the need to define God, all rich are equal, then white males are equal, then white females, then non-white males are equal, then non-white females are equal, then poor are equal, and then blacks are equal. Men before women, light skin before dark skin, rich before poor. That's how we define God's equality as a society.

Like the "half-truth virus" idea. Very cute.
The statement you reference means that none of us are better than any other of us because of our position, wealth, morals, goodness, sincerity or actions. None of these things is good enough to make the very best of us any better than the very worst of us.
This is important because it means that none of us can rely upon ourselves for our salvation. Instead we must rely on the mercy and goodness of God.

we are equal before GOD, not necesarily before human eyes. humans are not god. we are allowed to judge. hence free will. im not saying its right or wrong, but we are allowed to think that some people are better than others. in my eyes, people are not all equal. its gods job to decide that they all, me, ill stick with calling what i see. your right though, this mixed up mentality that all people are equal no matter what is corrupting modern philosofy.
