I am 22 and have a 3 year old daughter and would like to get a job in the Netherlands so that I can use that to get a residence permit and a work permit. It seems simpler to have a company request the paperwork than to go there and do it yourself, you get much quicker results that way and more often than not a positive reply. I am fluent in Dutch, (reading and writing and speaking) so I'm hoping that will help me. Also, does anyone know how to go about getting a divorce (from a canadian marriage) when living in the Netherlands? Can that be done via fax or mail? Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

If you're literate in dutch, do you have dutch ancestry? then you can get a family reunification visa. Very expensive but easiest way. Otherwise if you can get a job paying over 45K euro then you can apply for highly skilled worker visa. Check the IND (Immigration & Naturalisation Service). However, there's a law change at the beginning of Jan 1, 2007 so you better apply quick. Rita Verdonk is your nemesis.

If your company sponsors you then that is the most easy way.

RE: divorce, check out www.expatica.com then go to the forums for NL. They have lots of advice and info. However, you should initiate divorce proceedings before you go to NL because if you dont have a dutch passport, you need to establish residency first before you can apply for a divorce.

RIght now Holland is not the easiest place to get a work permit or residence permit for, unless you have a lot of money. Best way to do it would be to get a job in Holland working for a Canadian company I think, and have them sort out the paperwork before you go...

Here's the Dutch government immigration site http://www.ind.nl/EN/index.asp

When you are looking for a job, you can visit the following links:
http://www.cwinet.nl and http://www.werk.nl

You said you could read fluent Dutch, so these sites will not be a problem, all the information you would need can be found there.
You can also visit the immigration office website of the netherlands at http://www.ind.nl there you will find a lot of information too.

Sure hope this information is helpfull.
