Put the details (author, title, publisher, date, etc.) into the search on www.bookfinder.com. It will bring up similar books posted by used/rare book dealers and the prices they are asking.
Remember that condition affects the price.

1900? Well, if it's a first edition of say... Freud's Interpretation of Dreams, or Tolstoy's Ressurection, you have a collector's item.
But it's hard to find reliable appraisals on line for books that are *not* collectors items. You can only hope to get lucky and find the same edition on eBay or so, and even then the book has to be in the same condition.
I have a few books from the 19th century (an 1872 edition of Mouliere, etc.), all in good condition, with a colored print of the author, leather bound and everything, yet none of them are worth more than $40.

www.abe.com is a good resource. They will not give an appraisal, but searching for similar books will give you a sense.

Also look in the yellow pages for local antiquarian book dealers (found in yellow pages usually under "Used Books") for a more personal touch.

The chances of a random book from 1900 being significantly valuable are not great so don't get your hopes too too high, but you never know, you could have a real find.
