Obviously, you would have to test the demon by asking questions only the ghost would know.
If you remain unsure, you should just not trust whatever kind of apparition it is. Like if the ghost tries to lead you somewhere be very cautious. Neither ghosts or demons are known for being nice.
Possibly call a priest if it keeps haunting you.

demons can play nice and get you to believe in dead love ones are alive in a different realm but you need to know the condition of the dead and what the bible says! Ecclesiastes 9:5 you may want to read all of it(9). if we are dead and conscious of nothing how can someone see dead loved ones?it is demons!if we believe anything contrary to what the bible says we are only hurting ourselves towards god!research is the key!

ghosts and demons are real. I am a ghost hunter and I have seen a lot. It could be possible, especially if that loved one had an evil side

Since ghosts don't exist, demons don't exist and dead loved ones are gone, this question is irrelevant. Try using seltzer to remove the stains.

I have personally have had both good and evil presences in my house. If you are intuned enough with your inner self you will know when something is not right or is evil. Just be careful and always surround yourself with a bright white light.
