What is this stupid idea that men keep their feelings bottled up and women don't? If a man tells how he feels about his job, or his life, or how great he feels watching a very cool movie, how is he not talking about his emotions!?

And what about women? If a woman NEVER tells people how she really fells about things, and doesn't try to really understand the people she talks to, (or should I say, "at") how is she being a great communicator who likes to talk about her feelings?

I see this all the time, yet people love to believe that men are morons at communication and emotion, and women are masters at it.

That's incredibly sexist! I guess white people are smarter than black people too right?

Why do people believe these things when it's clear that many men and women both communicate well, and terribly, depending on the individual and the circumcstances?

Well it depends on what generation you come from! i mean like people who came from the old school generations were raised to think that men could not cry or express their emotions! and that woman had to be stay at home and not talk back to their men! so that said! the generations of today do talk about thier feelings and emotions! however some people are never gonna do that be it a man or a woman! because people of that type are what is called emotionally closed off! and they are the ones that keep it all bottled up inside of them until they explode! now you see i know people of both the generations about which i speak and from personal experiance i know what i say is true! i even know a few of the emotional closed off people! You see i don't find it very easy to express my own emotions and and iam from generation X so i can express them when i feel like its nessacarry or i have too or really want to! however i have lived most of my life letting the emotions bottle up inside me and i did explode and you know what iam free now! i say what i think and feel! and i know a guy who is just like me only he is from generation Y so younger but none the less same! so its not the sex that you are that determines how you express your feelings and emotions its how you were raised and what type of a person you are!

You know whenever someone says something like that I just want to scream! I feel like a volcano that's about to blow. It made me so angry and frustrated once when someone told me that - I almost punched a wall, but then I remembered seeing another guy do that and he broke just about every bone in his hand. That only added to my anger and made me afraid I'd probably hurt myself if I acted on it. It got to the point that I wanted to cry! Umm... ahhh... wait a minute, scratch all that.

You're nuts. Guys never talk about their feelings! What planet are you from, anyway? Guys don't have feelings. We're men. Feelings are for little sissy girls and the men who are really little baby girls on the inside. SHEESH, get real.

Now I know you're nuts. Women telling you how they feel? What they want? Don't you know that as a man you're supposed to read her mind and know without her telling you? Actually, I learned a neat trick about that. You just tell HER what she's thinking and what she's feeling. Works every time.

you are an unfortunate casualty of generalization my friend, and I will assume you to be male.
I have had to deal with being lazy and ignorant all of my life because I'm black.
add female to that, and I get to emotional.
my trick to it is this, I know who I am and what I'm capable of.
if you choose to put societal stipulations or limitations on me...then your lose.
be who you are, the people that really matter in your life will recognize and embrace that.
