I'm going to play dumb and give a straight answer. Food staples, bread, milk, cheese, meat, fruits and veggies are called "staples" because they are the basis of a healthy diet.
Metal staples, on the other hand are not healthy. If you did eat them, you would risk perforating your bowels and end up with peritonitis and die within an extremely short period of time.
