He said that for years, however, a few years ago he changed his story and admitted that he had bet on baseball. The logic at the time was that he wasn't going to get into the Hall of Fame if he kept lying (since it was established in the baseball community that he had bet) so he changed his story hoping to be fogiven and allowed into the Hall. I believe that this year was the last year he would be eligible on the ballot and he wasn't entered.

He sure did...and wasnt it his own team he bet against?
I use to go to the games when he was a player and not a manager....Man was he hot when he was younger.....WHhhhhhhhhhho loved watching him at base.
I feel sorry for him, cause he could of been a Hall of Fame person. Ooooo well.....

He denied it for ~15 yrs.....then in his latest autobiography, copped to having indeed bet on baseball whilest managing the Reds

He finally admitted to it in his book (one or two years ago), now he'll sell you a baseball with an apology.

i dont see why it was such a big deal, i mean its not like he put all the money against the reds and lost everygame intentionally. still deserves the hall of fame
