I believe we had lives but I can't remember!
I think we watched really bad 80s sitcoms such as "Duty Free" and that follow up to Are you Being Served where they ran a hotel (hmm what was that called?!!)
For computer kicks we played Amstrad CPC464s, ZX Spectrums (complete with rubber keys) or Commodore 64s...well, I say "played", what I actually mean is sat and stared at the tape deck as it made "mmmeeerrrr meeeeeeeeeeeeee beeeeerrrrrrrr beeeeeeeee" noises and stripey lines flashed on the screens....then the tape would run out and you'd realise that it hasn't loaded at all so you would rewind the tape and start again. We would repeat this every 45 minutes.
Alternatively we would go to discos and strutt down to the glorious sounds of Duran Duran and Kajagoogoo with our white suits (rolled up sleeves of course), dodgy quiffs and neon pink socks.
If we wanted knowledge we would go to our local library for a 20 year old copy of Encyclopedia Britannica - which we couldn't remove with our little cardboard "borrowers cards", but we were allowed to flick through EXTREMELY QUIETLY ;)
Outside of libraries we actually did a think called "talking"...I forget what that entailed really, but I think it meant making noises for communication with our mouths rather than "tap tapping" noises with our fingers.
Hmmm...its all hazy.

Television. People stare at a box with pretty flashing lights and then don't even remember what the hell they did for years before the internet. Now we're still staring at a box with pretty flashing lights instead of living life. Animals.

That's an easy one. Enjoyed hobbies (painting, stamp collecting, etc), reading, played games with family and friends, went out bowling, minature golf, beach, bike riding, had meaningful conversations with the people in our lives. Spent time doing things for those we love to show them how much we love them.
WE HAD LIVES DAMN IT!!! WE HAD LIVES!!!

We used reference/encyclopedias to find the answer or asked our teachers. Also we wrote a lot and had limited knowledge of things.
