It's a wonderful country ... full of natural beauty. Glaciers (and snowmobiling on the glaciers!), glacial lagoons, hot springs, mountains, waterfalls, geysirs, rivers (and fishing!), lava fields (cooled, of course!), thermally heated swimming pools, horseback riding, whale watching expeditions. Basically everyone there can speak English. Great fish and lamb. Clean. It's in "the land of the midnight sun" so in the summer you can go to one of their many clubs and stay until 2 AM and walk out into daylight - kind of freaky! Lots of blue eyes, blondes and strawberry blondes.

As far as the country's negatives... Well, you would never want to try sunbathing there. It is comfortable in the summer, but never hot. It's fairly expensive. I haven't been there in the winter but I suspect that the almost perpetual darkness could get you down.

I have been backpacking and hiking through Iceland. With hiking over the Vatnajokull glacier etc etc.

Yes, it is beautifull, yes, it is natural, yes, the water and the air are clear, yes, the nature can take spooky disguises - and I was disappointed.

Somehow my dreaming up front killed the attractiveness of reality (had imagined all to be bigger, more spacious, more pure).

It is the most beautiful place on earth. Very expensive as there are few natural resources. It is also fairly promiscuous place - not much else to do during those long nights (so I've heard)

I would love to go there....I have been to Sweden and have been told it's similar... very expensive, but I hear the night life there is really good.

Most scandinavians are nice, welcoming and outgoing people that LOVE to drink and party !
