The general term is symbiote, not parasite. A parasite is the most infamous--and harmful!--kind of symbiote because it harms the other creature. However, there are many cases where one animal lives off of another and both animals benefit from the relationship.
For example, all humans have baceteria in our digestive system. These bacteria live off us but they are not parasites. In fact, we couldn't digest food properly without them!
