Is this a sign of respect attached with the Nobel prize or is this a traditional ceremony

Here's an article from 'The Daily Princetonian' the refers to the scene you mention...

To quote:

"Other features, such as the Nobel Prize speech Nash gives in the film and the movie's portrayal of a Princeton tradition in which department heads give Nash pens as a sign of respect are fiction — Nash gave no speech, and the pen tradition does not exist."

So there you have it. Mr Howard just made it up for the movie. There is no such tradition.

I think that had something to do with the traditions of Princeton, I have not seen it or heard of it at other places.

It's a ceremony the university did to show respect to their co-worker. It showed he was accepted as a member of their educational society, so to speak.

I think it had something todo with the tradition at princeton as well...That movie was well crafted and beautiful!
