Virginia has a lot to offer everyone, depending on your taste and the time of year. Here's the site that will show you the main attractions to this beautiful state:

Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Luray Caverns is nice, but it's sooo commercial, it's almost a theme park- Grand Caverns and Endless Caverns are better.
A raft, kayak, or canoe trip on the James through Richmond- the nation's best urban whitewater. Take a guided raft trip unless you're pretty experienced, the Class IV+ rapids in some spots are pretty unforgiving.
Great Falls, on the Potomac- oh my goodness, what a beautiful river gorge!
Colonial Williamsburg- wear your walking shoes and step back in time. Beautiful gardens, peaceful atmosphere, great food, genteel people.
Jamestown- we're gearing up for the 2007 400th anniversary, come check it out!
The Science Museum of Virginia (in Richmond). Planetarium shows on the IMAX dome, sit in a real Piper Cub, play with a Tesla Coil (ZAP! heheheh), etc. Great for older kids, send the little ones next door to the Children's Museum.
Theme parks: Kings Dominion for roller coasters; Busch Gardens for coasters, other rides, great live shows, great atmosphere, food, trees, and lots of fun even if you don't happen to like roller coasters.

Busch Gardens, the Luray Caverns and the Natural Bridge are the best things I've seen. Oh, yeah, and the Yukon Restaurant. Yummy!

Mount Vernon is great, and so is Monticello.
Jamestown and Williamsburg are too - very historic.
Norfolk is a great port city and you can tour ships and subs.
Richmond is the capital.
Virginia Beach has great beaches and neat shops.

It really depends on which part of Virginia you are going to.
