because when you installed some new program on your machine, it also installed "insert aol pluign peice of crap here" While it's not going to harm your computer, your going to have a difficult time getting it totally out. this is why you ALWAYS should do a custom installation and don't just hit next when you install new software. AOL pays companies to let them include little add ons with totally unrelated software that is buy default, enabled to install. (if you just click next and don't read, you will get their crap)

The AOL spyware has been on your computer...it's a simple registry hack that you can change back with regedit. Search on the net for 'removing OEM branding in internet explorer' and some stuff concerning regedit will pop up. Try and work through those.

It doesn't mean anything. It is coded in your registry and will say that in the title bar. Computers that come preinstalled with AOL often have that in the Internet Explorer. Sometimes it will say "Powered by Compaq" or whatever your computer's manufacturer is. Seriously, it's meaningless, don't worry about it.

Probably because the cd that was used to install Explorer contained a "branded" version. There is no problem with that, it works all the same but has a different logo.

alot of internet services 'brand' your copy of internet explorer if you install their software at some point. often uninstalling the software leaves the branding in place.
the only way to remove it is to remove the string manually in the registry but i wouldn't advise it unless you're VERY comfortable with computers because one wrong move and you can seriously screw up your pc if you don't know what you're doing in the registry.
anyhow, the instructions are here - use them at your peril:
