Why does HMO's suck? Should I get PPO?

In this day and age, the bottom dollar is the primary goal for any healthcare organization. Patient care it seems, has gone the way of the dodo. There are problems with both types of organizations. HMO tends to be very frugal and often will try less effective therapies because they are less expensive, before they will try the newer improved therapies. PPO, tend to cost a good deal more, and again you run into similar penny pinching activities. PPO however does allow you to choose your own practitioners, with an HMO, you really have no choice but to see the practitioners within their system. If you have monetary concerns an HMO is likely your best option. If money is not a concern, then PPO will likely suit you better.

HMOs suck because they're cheap and you have to use in-network care and get referrals. PPOs are definitely worth the money if you plan on using health care (specialists, doctors, hospitals). HMOs are best for young people who don't go to the doctor much or who can stay in-network all the time. I prefer to forego organized health care and use a witch doctor.

I think you have a lot more choices with a PPO. With an HMO, the less they do for you the more money THEY make.

If you think HMO's and PPO's stink....why not be your own boss when it comes to your healthcare. Why not make it so you and your doctor chose what services you get, INSTEAD of your insurance and what they're willing to pay for.
