It's never too late to do any exercise.
However, you should know that things may not go back to 100% after the birth of a child, especially if this is a second or third birth. Also as we age our bodies don't respond the same way as before. So be patient, wear a pantiliner and exercise. Depending on how long ago you had your baby (6 months or more), you may start to see some improvement as the balance of hormones in your body equilibrates.

Kegel (or pelvic floor exercises) can be done anytime and anywhere. I would suggest beginning them ASAP. However, believe it or not, there is a "best" way to do them. Fortunately for us women, OBGYN's are learning new methods of correcting urinary incontinence. The kind you have is known as stress incontinence (leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, etc). An OBGYN that is up to date on this can teach you the best way to perform kegel exercises to benefit you most. Also, physicians do not rush to surgery for an answer any more. There are medications such as Vesicare that are made for this. There is also the option of physical therapy. Now I know how crazy that sounds, but it is a better option than surgery by far. Surgery should be the last option when everything else has been exhausted. I am currently taking Vesicare and will be doing the physical therapy when I'm done with nursing school. Good luck to you!

every woman should be doing her pelvic floor exercises regardless of having children.start now and try to do them a few times each day, this will help stop the leakage which is a very common problem after childbirth,it will also help prevent incontinence as you mature(an added benefit is that when you are ready to 'become intimate' with your partner again it increases the pleasure for you both)also makes the muscles stronger and toned ready for the next baby.there are weights available, some in varying degrees of weight that may help(I've never used them but know women who found them beneficial)speak to your health visitor/midwife/doctor,it can take time but if you don't feel it's making a difference you may need medical intervention to resolve this.Don't worry, it's more common than folk realise.

you should get the doctor to refer you to the physiotherapy department and they will help you with your pelvic floor exercises. I had the same problem as you, and was always at the toilet, and during the night about 4 times,as long as you stick to doing the pelvics then you will be fine, if not then surgery will help, i have an over active bladder and i do my pelvics, and am waiting to see if i need surgery asi had tablets to stop me from going to the toilet al the time and they didnt help.

the exercises are called Kegel's exercises. And if you are absolutely faithful and consistent in doing them at least three times a day, you can improve the muscle tone around the urethra so you do not have the stress incontinence you describe now. However, if you are not consistent, the problem will not only continue it will worsen until the only "fix" for the problem will be surgery.

See your doctor. You didn't say how long ago you had your child. Sometimes it can be reversed by doing the exercise as often as you can. If it is a physical problem, such as a weak bladder, there are medications and even operations to sort the problem out.

It's funny you mention it. During the birth of my daughter I ripped and the doctor just asked me if I leaked urine when I sneeze or cough. She told me to do kegal execises to tighten it back up if it does happen.

You can sort it out. You can either do exercises or use internal weights. Look on Google and you will find loads of links.
